Netflix, I hate you. First, you made me binge-watch on two seasons of Terrace House. Now, the Aloha State made me crave for some yummy Hawaiian dishes. It's scary how the media can create desires even though I'm quite self-aware (and actually thought I was adverse) to such subliminal advertising. I gave myself a mission to hunt for Singapore's best Hawaiian dish, and my first stop was Poke Lulu, led by my favourite 1-for-1 mobile app, The Entertainer. Poke is a popular and vibrant dish in Hawaii, made up of sashimi and other complementary ingredients.

Frankly speaking, I was quite surprised that the store was relatively empty for a Saturday evening. Could it be the choice of location? United Square is catered to parents and kids for enrichment activities.

It's quite creative of them to offer the sashimi in 6 different types of sauces, thus giving an illusion that there are actually a lot of protein choices. The marinates were DELICIOUS! The greatest limitation is the option of cooked food — some of my friends don't eat raw fish, so Poke Lulu can't be an option if I went out with them. Nevertheless, their generous portion deserves an applause! I'd be back again.

Service was pretty no-frills — my friend tried to make a joke with the staff but she didn't play along with us or even smiled. I really appreciate the finishing touches that they have over the counter, such as giving complimentary free-flow fruit water, kimchi and self-service sauces. You can take as much as you want, but only what you need.
