Koryo Korean Baked Chicken Hof

How is baked chicken any different from fried chicken? You may want to satisfy your curiosity, I mean, appetite, at Koryo's Korean Baked Chicken Hof. Koryo is the first to bring the concept of baked chicken to Singapore, riding on the 'chicken and bear' combo made famous by the Korean drama, "My Love from the Star". Chimek (i.e: Chicken and beer in Korean) is perceived to be a winning recipe in places like Korea and China. But Koryo has something more to offer.

The unique eatery takes a different approach in presenting their dining atmosphere: Cage lights, brick walls, old ads and monochrome photos make you feel rather sombre. The music played was nothing Korean, and I thought I was stepping into a mysterious dungeon.

Observing the chefs in this open-concept kitchen, I felt assured to know that they were meticulous in producing safe and quality food.

Koreans are known for their hospitality, and it was pleasant when they offered us a jug of complimentary sky juice and appetisers.

White Radish - Complimentary

White Radish
The radish (musaengchae) was a great dish to wake you up. It was crunchy and surprisingly sour, a pleasant starter to our main course.

Potato - Complimentary

This was so addictive that we gobbled it all down before the main course arrived. As a cold dish, it was significantly flavoursome and moist.

Chicken Drumsticks - S (S$15), M (S$28), L (S$36)

There are other parts of chicken which you can try, but my favourite is the drumstick. I was initially disappointed because I thought the pieces looked rather small, but surprisingly, they were delightfully satisfying for my friend and I. The skin was crispy and the meat was SO tender and juicy! Baked chicken really tastes so different from its deep fried counterpart, it's definitely worth it!

Rice cakes with Cheese — S$14.00

Better known as 떡볶이(Cheese Ddeokbokki), this spicy dish could make you breathe out fire. Every mouthful is almost Michelin-star guaranteed: it was spicy, cheesy, sweet and salty. It makes me wonder how a dish containing only rice, fishcake, cheese and sweet-spicy red chilli sauce can taste so goooood!

Thumbs up, Koryo! :)
