Le Nu Singapore Food Review

I had the privilege to try out one of the latest concept from Paradise Group, LeNu. It's not a surprise if many haven't been to Le Nu, as there are only two outlets in Singapore. Le Nu has a rather complicated ordering process — the waiters make you sit down as you write your order, but your order can only be completed when you self-order at the counter.

The menu is presented in a simple duplex-page of images, description and price. There is a slight customisation for you to choose from, such as the choice of soup and the type of noodles you want.

For example, you can choose broad, thin or rice noodles. You can also select authentic braised beef soup, braised beef soup with pickled cabbage or hot & spicy beef soup. LeNu boasts of having authentic braised beef soup broth, premium well-marbled beef, LeNu speciality noodles and a secret dipping sauce. But first, let us start with appetisers!

Chilled Tofu with Century Egg - S$2.90

When it comes to appetisers, the Chilled Tofu with Century Egg should be first on your list. I managed to grab hold of the last one before it was sold out! The cold dish was full of flavours - sweet, salty, tender and refreshing. I would recommend that each person should have one on their own as it is quite addictive.

Roasted Nuts - S$2.90

Starter - Roasted Nuts
I would say, "skip this". It taste as bad as it looks. The Roasted Nuts were quite salty without any fragrance of a roast. It didn't taste as fresh too.

Long Bean - S$2.90

Starter - Long Bean
This is probably marinated with some special house sauce as it had a strong smell. I would say this could be a sharing portion among three or more people, and it is advised that you drink it with some hot tea.

 Beef Dipping Sauce - Complimentary

The Beef Dipping Sauce is prepared fresh every morning, this special homemade dipping sauce is salty on the first space, then mild spicy, and finally a sweet pleasant aftertaste. It is the perfect condiment to further elevate the taste and richness of the beef.

Braised Beef Brisket Noodles (Thin) - S$10.90

You can't help but notice that the bowl is exactly the same with Paradise Dynasty. This simply shows that they are under the same giant eatery from Paradise Group Holdings. The food taste slightly different from Paradise Dynasty though.

The beef brisket is extremely chunky and tender. I really loved how there are no visible signs of gluten and fat!

Each strand of the noodle has an even thickness, which makes me wonder if it is actually machine or hand-made. I love the soft springy and neutral taste that accompany the chewiness of the beef brisket. Both ingredients totally complement each other!

Braised Beef Combination Noodles (Thick) - S$13.90

I wanted to try the spicy beef soup and thick noodles. The spicy soup was already oily, but the combination of various beef parts made it even oilier. However, the beef was really fresh and it soaked up the spiciness of the soup. It felt like each meat was marinated with lots of chilli and spices,  and this is something that chilli-lovers must try.

I fancy the thicker noodles as compared to the thin one, as it was more filling and chewy to bite. If you think it look like Ban Mian, you may well be right! The taste was eerily similar, except that there is no floury or doughy texture to it.

Tips to take note of:
1. Don't get the spicy beef soup if you can't even take mild spicy. It's really chilli hot!!!
2. The best seating area is against the grey wall. Anywhere else requires people trying to get pass you, hence there is little privacy.
3. The outlet is located nearer to Harbourfront centre. It may be a challenge to find the entrance of the restaurant!
4. Remember to dip your beef into the special Beef Dipping Sauce!
