IPPIN CAFE BAR
IPPIN CAFE BAR is Singapore’s first three-in-one concept that brings diners to a veridical Japanese home, a café and a bar. The sun-drenched space along Mohamed Sultan Road yields a comforting ambience that allows light-hearted conversations to unfold. They offer authentic home-cooked Japanese food served by Chef Naomi. It was my pleasure to try out their menu highlights— thanks IPPIN CAFE BAR for hosting us!
One of the must-tries is Chef Naomi's Deep Fried Oyster Set. The dish is pretty impressive, with a distinct briny aroma of the deep ocean where these oysters are harvested. The light coat of batter adds a welcome contrasting crispiness to the succulent fresh oysters.
Epitomizing the Japanese home-cooked food theme is the Yakisoba. The secret of the noodles is said to lie in a closely-guarded savoury sauce. Hailing from Chiba Prefecture, this was one of my most-fancied dishes!
I never knew that Hiroshima Prefecture is famous for their oysters. The oysters are grilled in ponzu (yuzu vinegar) and butter sauce for a lighter touch. The set comes with rice (with barley), Hatcho miso soup, Nikujaga pork and potato stew, salad and dessert. It makes for a well-rounded, satisfying and comprehensive meal!
I was surprised that this was served as a side-dish, because the portion was pretty huge! Onions, carrots, and an assortment of meats were mixed together here.
How does a home-cooked Oyakudon set taste like? I thought there was no difference between this and what my mum cooks. I think I would appreciate this more if the chicken came in larger chunks!
This cup of magical nuts turned me into a fanatic. Available in three flavours — serious coffee, creamy strawberry and grassy matcha — these Rattsu Nuts are dangerously addictive!
I've never liked soda, but this fizzy drink didn't disappoint at all. It wasn't overly gassy, and the sweetness was pretty light and refreshing. I sincerely hope this soda will find its way to all convenience stores so that I can grab it anytime and drink on-the-go!
From left to right: Kanazawa Hyajumangoku Beer Pale Ale, Kanazawa Hyajumangoku Beer Koshihikari Ale, Kanazawa Hyajumangoku Beer Dark Ale, Granagri. If you'd like to go for a stronger beer, try the Dark Ale or Granagri. I preferred the Pale Ale, as it had a well-balanced bitterness with a smooth texture. The beer head gave off a wonderful aroma of barley as well.
