PARKROYAL on Kitchener Road - Si Chuan Dou Hua Review

Kickstart a relaxing weekend with this delectable buffet spread of Sichuan cuisine from Si Chuan Dou Hua, Park Royal Hotel. Their spread includes traditional specialities ranging from mild soups and vegetarian dishes to fiery deep-fries and savoury dessert. With popular Cantonese cuisine and exquisite handmade dim sum dishes, you and your family will be spoilt for choice! Read till the end of the post to find out more about how to win a Dim Sum Feast for 2 at Si Chuan Dou Hua (3 winners).

The ambience resembles a traditional chinese inn for the affluent in China. The complimentary brick walls with circular-patterned carpets were quite a contrast. I loved how it was so spacious and relaxing!

We were introduced to Chef Leung, who hails from Hong Kong. He spoke mandarin with a heavy Hong Kong accent.

Last year, I had my first encounter with a tea master using a long spout tea pot to skilfully pour out boiling water into a tea cup. Dining at Si Chuan Dou Hua is also complemented with a skilled Tea Master display, in which hot tea is poured through a long-spout kettle into your teacup.

The large chunks of carrot cake are evenly cut into squares, making every bite a juicy and satisfying one!

Pan-fried Carrot Cake

Double-boiled Cartilage Soup (Only one serving per person)
Don't miss the savoury soup — I wish I could gobble a whole pot of it. It has a thick and savoury base and there's gingko nut, wolf berry, a piece of vegetable and shark cartilage.

BARBECUED ITEMS (One Serving only)

Teochew Stewed Duck
Soya Chicken
BBQ Pork Rib
Among these three types of meat, I preferred the Teochew stewed duck because it has very thick meat and crisp skin. I felt that the soya chicken works better if it is served as a cold appetiser instead :)

"Char Siew" Bun
The bun was very fragrant and fresh — obviously made from scratch! I liked how the sweet sauce blended so well with the meat.

"Hakka" Dumpling with Turnip

Signature Pork Belly Roll with Yam
One of the chef's specialties is the Signature Pork Belly roll with Yam. I was really surprised at how it tasted, because it'll be nothing like what you expect!

Siew Mai with Diced Abalone
Another favourite of mine is the siew mai. The chef tried to make it stand out from the usual siew mai by adding a piece of abalone on top.

Bean Curd in spicy Minced Meat Sauce

Stir-fried French Bean with Minced Meat

Casserole Rice with Chicken and Chinese Sausage

Steamed Yam Paste Bun with Salted Egg Yolk
You'd be surprised that the salted egg yolk bun is not that sort of a flawy custard bun we usually have! However, the swirls is really beautiful and I wonder how they made it.

Chicken Feet with Bitter Gourd
Homemade Bean Curd with Wolfberry
I really liked the bean curd as well because they gave lots of wolf berries and the beancurd was really tender (yet doesn't break apart easily). It's a choice dessert for those who are cutting down on sugar because it's not too sweet!
Fine Beancurd with Vanilla and Black Sesame Ice-cream
On the other hand, you can purchase menu items on a la carte as well. I absolutely loved the Fine Beancurd with Vanilla and Black Sesame Ice-Cream. It features a unique crunchy texture of the black sesame combined with the soft and tender beancurd.
