Gin Khao
The area around East Coast Parkway is a popular go-to food and leisure destination for both locals and tourists. East Coast has a scenic coastline that stretches over 15km, so I don't mind taking in more calories because I can easily shed them off by taking a stroll along the beautiful beach! My partner and I were invited by Ann Marie for a tasting session at Gin Khao, and we were quite surprised that the restaurant is located in a building of its own. Anyway, read till the end of the post for an ongoing promotion with Gin Khao!
This is a Gin Khao Special, also known as the watermelon fried rice. If there's one thing to order from Gin Khao, this is definitely it! The refreshing and juicy watermelon complements the fried rice, adding moisture into it. The chicken floss sweetens your tastebuds and adds a fluffy texture... absolutely delicious! Previously, they served this in a watermelon husk but the rice got too soggy quickly. This has the 'wok hei' taste so the rice is really fragrant!
The crayfish with Thai garlic and pepper sauce came in a wok, and it was served with vermicelli rice that became quite dry after 10 minutes (because I was snapping away)!
This Thai Iced Rose Milk Tea tastes similar to the one from Thai Express — in fact, I was told that the founder of Gin Khao used to work in Thai Express previously. The rose flavour was pretty mild, but that's okay for me because too much of it might make it taste like Bandung eh.

Prawn & Green Mango Relish — S$7.80
While durian is the king of all fruits, mango is claimed as the queen by many. We were quite clueless as to the rules of this dish — should we eat the stuff in the cup with the rice crackers or separately? Anyway, we experimented here and there and found that its best to top the rice crackers with the prawn and green mango relish. Eat it in one bite and you'll get to enjoy the full flavours and texture of this dish!
Gai Tod Tom Yum — S$8.80
The crisp skin accompanied with the tender juicy flesh is quite addictive! There is a mild tom yum flavours on the chicken mid joint wings, and you can intensify it by dipping them in a separate sauce. The sauce is a secret recipe made in-house. Probably one of the most memorable wings I've eaten this year.
Kaeng Khew Wan Gai — S$12.80
Known as the Tender Juicy Chicken in Jade Green Curry broth, I liked the strong and sweet coconut taste in the bowl. The mixture of green curry paste combined with thick coconut cream is a signature dish in Thailand and goes extremely well with rice.
Khao Phat Dtaeng Moe — S$11.80
Kang Ob Woon Sen — S$16.80
Thai Iced Rose Milk Tea — S$4.80
This Thai Iced Rose Milk Tea tastes similar to the one from Thai Express — in fact, I was told that the founder of Gin Khao used to work in Thai Express previously. The rose flavour was pretty mild, but that's okay for me because too much of it might make it taste like Bandung eh.
Coconut Mojito — S$6.80
This drink is really sweet with a strong mint taste. Go for it only if you have a really sweet tooth!
Gelato with Lychee Sorbet— S$7.80
Savoury desserts... Mmm, yummy. We didn't want to go for something too sweet as we had about 7 scoops of ice-cream the day before, so this was the perfect choice for us. Thanks Ann Marie for recommending the lychee sorbet!
