Bored of the usual? Here's something different for Chinese New Year with Swiss Butchery.
Our lives are pretty much boring without innovation. Ushering in the year of the dog does not need to take on the form of the usual steamboat reunion dinner. With Singapore as a melting pot of various cultures, there is nothing more unique than having an 'east-meet-west' dinner for a spectacular Lunar New Year feast. It's the first time Swiss Butchery concoct their own 'Prosperity Yusheng Platter Set'. Along with it comes various hand-made Chiense New Year goodies such as the Bamboo Charcoal Roll and Pumpkin Seed Crisps.

Famous for: Ageing meats, gourmet ingredients
The Quiche with Bak Kwa (S$32.00) and Signature Roasted Pork Belly (Approx. 1.2kg per slab) (S$28.80) are undoubtedly the oscar winners for the night. Bak kwa is a piece of sweet-salty pork that is similar to meat jerky, except that it is a lot sweeter. It's a favourite snack among the Chinese during the Lunar New Year. The roasted pork belly was such a hot favourite that the chef has to top up the tray at least four times.

Prosperity Yusheng Platter (Serves 10-12 Pax) — S$48.80
The traditional Yu sheng has marketed itself so well, it becomes a compulsory dish for every local chinese company and a must-buy for every reunion dinner. Whoever thought of spewing well wishes while tossing coloured vegetables is the most brilliant person ever. I'm so proud that it's a Singaporean dish! The Yusheng platter from Swiss Butchery is vibrant and exciting — each strand of ingredient is thinly sliced.
Fresh European Oysters (Size 4) - 24 pcs — S$48.00

Who would have thought that these deep cup flesh could be so sweet, clean and fresh? We squeezed a little lime for some acidity but the aroma reminds me of the ocean. And God knows how much I love the ocean!
Jumbo Roast Golden Chicken (Approx. 2kg) — S$20.00
Another satisfactory dish is the juicy golden chicken — tender is a word used too often, but it is exactly how this female bird tastes like. The skin was well marinated with an edge of sweet savoury.
Also in here is the Jumbo Golden Drumstick Platter (Aprpox. 2kg) — S$17.90.
Braised Whole Duck with Chestnut Filling — S$68.00
Braised Whole Duck with Chestnut Filling — S$68.00 |
Surely your guests will be impressed with such a duck beautifully presented. My jaw felt like it was ready to gobble up the entire whole duck — somehow it reminds me of a smaller version of turkey. Maybe ducks represent Chinese New Year just as how Christmas has become all about turkeys.
Traditional Spicy Chicken in Gelatine — S$42.00
Smoked Duck Breast — S$18.90
What goes into the marinade? What makes it so pink? I wish I knew the answers to these questions because the smoky salty flavours were strong.
Fruitwood White/Red Wine
One of my favourite wines from McWilliam's. The white wine is lively and easy-to-drink, pairs well with every Chinese New Year dish. The red is dark yet luscious. I can't decide which one I prefer between the two!
SB BakKwa Classic
Homestyle Cookies (In-store special)
There are more than 19 different variants of festive cookies — some unique ones include Bamboo Charcoal Eggroll (S$16.80 per box) and Red Velvet Cookies (S$15.80/box). My favourite was the Pumpkin Seed Crisps (S$23.90/box) and Almond Cookies (S$15.80/box).
