For more than 10 years, the menu at Makko Teck Neo remains the same.

Say 'Makko Teck Neo' and the Telok Blangah residents will share with you their memories of this  peranakan eatery. History began with Teck Neo baking and selling their signature pineapple tarts and cookies every Chinese New Year to relatives and friends. 10 years ago, Teck Neo moved into Telok Blangah Rise to cater to the growing business focusing on peranakan cuisine. Till today, Teck Neo pineapple tarts are still painstakingly handmade and freshly baked every day for our customers. In May last year, Makko Teck Neo began their take-away kiosk operations at Tangs market at Tang Plaza.

Dry mee siam is a less popular and nonya-style version of the malay dish 'mee siam'. 'Mee Siam' also means 'thai noodles' in malay, so the roots of this dish remains unknown. It's a pretty simple dish that is made up of spicy vermicelli with a light serving of spicy tamarind & coconut sauce. With a squeeze of lime, the mee siam was sweet and tangy.

Nyonya Ngoh Hiang — S$11.90

This is the signature dish of the restaurant, also most expensive of the restaurant. Ngoh Hiang is a dialect referring to five spice meat rolls. The Peranakans and various Chinese dialect groups have their own versions of Ngoh Hiang, and even the Koreans have this own version of marinated meat too. Here at Makko Teck Neo, their variant is a peranakan one served with Teck Neo chilli choker in a "pork & prawn" roll served with Teck Neo chilli chukar.

Stir-Fried Vegetables — S$6.00

Don't we all love fuss-free dishes? This plate of stir-fried cabbage is served with wood ear mushroom, carrot slices and prawns. It's stir-fried in a wok for a few seconds, so the crunch and freshness remains.

Burbur Cha-Cha — S$4.90

If my foreigner friends come to Singapore, I will make sure that they are here to try the traditional dessert served with coconut milk, gula melaka (palm sugar), sweet potato and yam. The tubers and jelly are perfectly stewed and the rich coconut milk are nicely tempered by the gula melaka.
