Talay Kata combines Shabu Shabu and Mookata into one big dining experience!

I met Hence at 7pm on a weekday night for some Thai buffet at Talay Kata. Under the Jus Delish Group, Talay Kata was conceptualized in September 2016 and provides a slightly different offering from Gin Khao and Som Tam. Talay Kata taps on the popular local "Mookata concept" with their Thai Seafood Barbecue Restaurant, Talay Kata, offering a new take on traditional Northern Thai Barbecue where seafood (i.e. crayfish, squid, mussels, fish, prawns) takes the spotlight.

 Ambience (Interior)

Great for large gatherings as tables and chairs can be easily shifted around!
The colourful prisms on the wall does its job by lightening up the mood among diners. They have a device that funnels away the oily fumes so that it doesn't cling to your clothes and hair!

The Cooking Process

Bacon

Smoked duck

Smoked duck, bacon, clam, tom yum, green curry — these are just one of many options in the buffet spread. I personally like the flavours of the tom yum, it was sour and had a slight kick from the spices. They also provide white rice too, which I hope that they can include healthier options such as brown rice in future.

Fried foods

Fried fish tofu

Fishcake

Chicken drumlets

Don't miss the chicken drumlets — tiny pieces of meat cling to a small bone but they taste so fresh and so good! Someone comes in to refill every 15 to 30 minutes, so the chicken remains crispy.

Seafood Section

The seafood is kept in a chiller on rattan baskets. Here you can find mussels, clams, spice marinated fishes, prawns and shishamo. I still prefer their meat over seafood though! Sadly I forgot to take the photos but their handmade balls are really good. From fishballs and mushroom balls to something unique like the otah / cuttlefish balls, they complement heartwarming favourites such as the instant noodles.
