Celebrate Chinese New Year 2019 with Captain K Seafood Tower
With the rise of instagram, the food scene in Singapore is changing. Aesthetics now play a big part in wowing the crowd. Within the genre of 'steamboats', I see a steam revolution where it is no longer about a family hovering over a traditional electronic steamboat. Captain K is famous for its 9-tiered seafood steam tower and already has popular food critics Wong Ah Yoke and Eunice Quek writing about it three years back. This Lunar New Year, Captain K is back with their Propserity Yusheng (served with 18 slices of salmon) for $38.80 (medium, 2-3 pax) or $46.80 (large, 4-6 pax) and an extensive offering for the Chinese New Year ahead!
The place is dimly lit, and korean pop songs play on three flatscreens that are hung on the far side of the restaurant. Diners sit on black stools without back and armrest, and these stools also work as a storage space for your barang barang.
You can get these prawns in three ways: butter garlic, cheese baked or saikyo mayo/mentaiko. I suggest getting them in butter garlic to experience the prawns in its most purest form possible.

Chinese New Year Golden Reunion Set (S$468 for 7-8 pax ++).
Their majestic 9-tiered Pacific Tower consists of Captain K Prosperity Yusheng with salmon (large), the Chilean King Crab, Lobsters, Oysters, Scallops, Prawns, Mussels, Clams and Squid. On top of that, they also serve vegetables in seafood soup base steamboat as well as fried sea bass with specialty dashima sauce and garlic pork belly. This elaborate meal ends off with Bungeoppang ice-cream (I leave you to find out what it is)!

Clams - $30 for 500 grams
I'm not a fan of high-cholesterol-causing clams, but this one is good for me to have a few pieces. A fellow instagrammer, @nikolai_wee, lamented that this is really, really goooood.River King Prawns - S$7.00 per 100 gram
One of my favourite dishes of the night. The river king prawn is extremely sweet and fresh. These weren't deveined, but it did not have the slight bitterness that usually comes with frozen prawns. You can get these prawns in three ways: butter garlic, cheese baked or saikyo mayo/mentaiko. I suggest getting them in butter garlic to experience the prawns in its most purest form possible.
Sri Lanka Mudcrabs
Sri Lanka Mudcrabs come in two formats - steamed or salt baked - and they both cost $8.80 for 100 grams.Lobsters
You can select various flavours for your lobster - it can be cooked in butter garlic, cheese baked, mentaiko or saikyo mayo. All of these are priced at $8.80 per 100 grams as well.Ponzu Oysters - $35 for 1/2 dozen
These plump juicy oysters with citrus ponzu sauce seals the freshness deal. Be sure to order a few tiers of these heavenly seafood treasure!
