Sex at Quayside — and other 7 Must-try dishes at Quayside Fish Bar & Bistro
If you've watched the movie Safe Haven and loved the set-up of the featured seaside restaurant, you will find Quayside Fish Bar & Bistro a wonderful place for the unfolding of a love story. The waterfront breeze permits a comfortable alfresco dining experience, although you may choose to sit indoors if you prefer brighter lighting. (Scroll to the end for current promotions).
Sitting outdoors, of course, would grant you a magnificent view of the sunset over the yachts. From time to time, you'll see residents walking their dogs under the stars of the moonlit night.
The bistro is so spacious that dancing around the tables would be easy. The environment is a marked change from the hustle and bustle of stressful Singapore— Quayside Fish Bar & Bistro is truly a place where light-hearted conversations can take place.
Unlike some of the sleazier bars in town, the bar at Quayside Fish Bar & Bistro is brightly lit.
The crew pouring our drinks on the spot — a subtle indication of their freshness.
One of the more interesting dishes was the Tuna Tataki, which consisted of pear crumble, wakame seaweed, avruga caviar and edible flowers. Although it looks raw, it has been briefly seared over a flame, while keeping the original taste intact. Only the very best can taste great in its original form (with little heating). The addition of bits of pear crumble was indeed an ingenious idea, forming a perfect combination with the avruga caviar and wakame seaweed.
We were introduced to one of the most refreshing drinks ever. It was filled with delicious fresh antioxidant fruits such as strawberries and blueberries, and topped with refreshing Rekorderlig cider. It was a great opening to the evening ahead.
This dish is changed daily depending on what comes in fresh each day. While I think that QSFB could improve on the plating of this dish, every bit of the salad was fresh and juicy. The tiger prawns were served with yellow frisy and scallops, making every bite succulent and juicy. The sauces used were well-balanced, with none of them too overpowering.
This is probably the star of the entire meal. The soft-shell chilli crab rests upon a bed of linguine, innocently waiting for its food-tasting verdict. There is nothing overly pretentious about the dish, except for flakes of mixed herbs strewn across the plate. It was indeed a great pairing with the linguine as the smooth pasta went really well with the crispy protein.
My favourite on the plate was the lobster butter sauce — you must pair it with the baked barramundi to make it taste great. The consistency of the pumpkin puree was not as smooth, as I could detect bits and pieces of the pumpkin. The red wine poached pear didn't appear as good, but was in fact a blissful marriage of unique flavours.
While most of my fellow diners loved this drink, I found it a tad too strong. STRANGELY however, I kept wanting to slurp more, as if I was addicted to it (until I ended up finishing the drink). On a random note, the tall glass made me feel like I was in Hawaii.
One of the most difficult parts of a full-course meal would be the dessert. Many chefs struggle to dish out desserts as stunning as their other courses, but the chefs at Quayside Fish Bar & Bistro managed to ace the Tiramisu. It was really well-balanced, being rich on the exterior yet remaining light within. The coffee and liquor provided both sweet and bitter touches.
My first impression of this drink was that it LOOKED quite diluted, but my oh my, it tasted so great that I wanted so much more! Gulping down the cocktail was a signal to my tastebuds that my meal had officially ended, though I knew somewhere within me craved for more.
Quayside Fish Bar & Bistro currently has an ongoing promotion which allows you to enjoy half a dozen Fanny Bay Oysters and a glass of Veuve Clicquot at $39++ (Valid on Tuesdays to Fridays till 5.30pm).
