Step-by-step review of d'skin Oxygenating Facial Treatment

It took me a lot of courage and correspondence with d'skin's PR agency before I finally embarked on a facial treatment with them— this is because I have tried facial treatments with other companies before and had such terrible experiences. I'm sure many ladies can relate to the frustration and helplessness I experienced when faced with pushy sales pitches and painful over-squeezing. Only upon obtaining d'skin's repeated assurances did I decide to give facial treatments another try.
d'skin review
It has been four years since my last facial treatment. Frightened by acne scars and frequent confrontations with pushy sales 'consultants', I had decided that facials were more stressful than relaxing. Furthermore, I had previously signed up for two packages which didn't work at all. They said I had to return every two weeks for treatment, which I did faithfully, only to be asked to purchase this and that product, top-up with 'ampoule treatment', 'anti-aging treatment' and the like. In contrast, here's what I think of my facial experience at d'skin.

1. FIRST technology in Singapore to track your skin's pH

Pardon my tired-looking face after a week's worth of gruelling work. I was initially skeptical about this 'FIRST technology in SG' because I had tried a similar technology (Amway YK10 skin analyser) before. Here's the difference: Amway YK10 skin analyser does not show the actual pH levels at various parts of your face. You have to insert your face into an egg-looking capsule and it only shows the overall oiliness.Their analysis is different when you do it in the morning with a fresh face as compared to at the end of the day.

On the other hand, the technology used by d'skin measures seven skin indicators— elasticity, hydration, melanin, temperature, phenotype, sebum and pH level. This is used EVERY single time a customer drops by. It's great because our skin condition changes every day. At various times, it could be oily, dry, or even a combination of both. The therapists monitor the skin’s condition before prescribing treatment.

2. Thorough and accurate analysis of your skin condition

Overall skin analysis on forehead, right/left cheek and chin
There were 15 pages of skin analysis to be done. I know for sure this is accurate because I have different routines for different parts of my face. Typically, I love to spam moisturiser and hydrating lotion on my chin and left cheek. As my forehead is usually oily, I tend not to apply anything on that area except to wash it. That's a really wrong move — because oiliness is caused by the lack of hydration. I usually apply skin whitening lotion and sunblock on my right cheek. Looking at the results of my skin analysis, this machine seems pretty accurate.

Though my face has pretty good hydration levels, the sebum result is in the yellow range (oily skin). The consultants pinpointed several factors contributing to high sebum levels, including poor sleeping habits and an unhealthy diet. Well, we all know these but it's really useful to have someone reminding you about how you should change your lifestyle (although the chastening was very uncomfortable, haha). The machine was really accurate in describing my combination and sensitive skin condition.

3. No fluff, just the real stuff

Compared to the other facial parlours I've been to, d'skin's facial room is really small. The most beautiful piece of furniture in the room is that mirror above. There's no carpeting or Victorian wallpaper, no tea served, no aromatherapy, and I guess this is great for those who don't like the idea of paying for such frills. They also have a really small shower room.

4. Sebum reduction and pimple removal

My worst fears came true when they started on pimple extraction. I had made several requests to avoid this procedure. However, after about 5-10 minutes of persuasion, I had no choice but to give in. Apparently, d'skin does not use any pimple extraction tools. Their skill lies in their bare hands and years of practice. The extraction was reasonably painless (my pain threshold is almost zero), and the therapist was really swift. Though I didn't suffer any acne scars after the treatment, I felt pretty uncomfortable that they ignored me even when I repeatedly declined the extraction. After that, I got to try this really, really amazing extraction mask.

I felt like my face was pulled apart every time I blinked. The weird thing is, this experience was super enjoyable... not sure if I'll get wrinkles from it though :/

Wow. Just look at the amount of oil, blackheads and whiteheads removed?! The peeling was a really painful process, and the therapist had to do it slowly while I endured the discomfort.

5. Oxygenating Facial Treatment

oxygenating facial treatment
I'd previously tried an oxygenating treatment at another facial company but it was really uncomfortable. They used a high-speed jet to pump the oxygen into my face, and each time it pumped, the pressure was really high and my eyes had to be shut tight. The oxygenating treatment ($198) at d'skin uses a totally different jet — in fact I didn't feel the pressure at all. It was SO relaxing that I fell asleep. When I woke up, my skin was really soft and supple... it was quite hard to believe!

6. BEFORE and AFTER

before and after facial review
The results are pretty visible — the pus from the pimples is all gone! My skin also seems to have a brighter, natural glow. Days after the facial, my skin continued to be soft and supple, and less oily at the end of the day. I think the results are quite impressive for just one session.

7. Will I try d'skin again?

d'skin product review
While the results are pretty impressive and their service is very thorough, I was quite uncomfortable with their sales policy. In the room, the consultant mentioned that they have very good products for sensitive skin and asked if I was willing to purchase one. I turned down the offer as I have many unfinished sensitive skin products at home. However, after the treatment, another consultant asked me once again if I wanted to purchase their treatment packages or products. Yes, I would recommend d'skin to people who can say no in the face of unwelcome pressure!

They also offer other treatments such as:
1. Soft Light / Cold Light Therapy ($498): Light of specific wavelengths delivered to the skin to stimulate and activate cellular processes deep within the skin layers. To combat visible signs of aging.

2. Supreme CO2 Phototherapy ($468): Treats dark circles and minimises eye bags. Refreshes skin tone and restores youthful skin.

3. Photo Rejuvenation ($348): Non-invasive treatment that uses different wavelengths of light to penetrate and treat different layers of skin. Treats acne, skin damage from the sun, visibly broken capillaries, hyper-pigmentation and enlarged pores.

  1. Hair loss will be a awfully depressing drawback for people who suddenly realize massive clumps of hair starting off of their head. half of the male population suffers from hair loss once the age of fifty, for more information click here face treatment for men.
