Japan Travel Series: 5-Star Restaurant - The Gatehouse @ Nagoya Review
One cannot expect anything less from a restaurant who shares the same name with their 5-star hotel counterpart. Since their opening on April 17, THE GATEHOUSE is a forever-crowded restaurant because of its convenient and prime location right above JR Nagoya Station. It took my best friend and I a lot of determination to get into the restaurant because of the long queue. It was only during our third day of our hotel stay that we mustered all our energy and got down to restaurant when they just opened their doors at about 7am. The queue — thankfully it wasn't that long! |
The politeness of the Japanese wait staff was remarkable — they kept bowing as they welcomed us to the restaurant. You can choose to dine alfresco and we decided to sit somewhere with natural lighting. As this was a relatively new hotel and restaurant, most, if not all, of the customers are Japanese. In fact, you can hardly find any reviews about this restaurant written in English!
We thought we beat the queue outside, but as it turns out, the buffet table had a long queue too...

How many of us can cook perfectly al dente pasta? This creamy parma ham was perfectly flavoured, with the freshly grated parmesan cheese it's hard to say that there's nothing french about this. For a brief moment I thought I was in France instead of Japan!
Baked barramundi with pumpkin sauce |
