Korea Travel Series: The Plate in Busan, Gamcheon Cultural Village

The Plate is a wonderful cafe-cum-restaurant at Gamcheon Cultural Art Village conceptualised by a young proprietor who majored in tourism studies. This restaurant takes on the persona of an artfully crammed house and is located beside a famous stairwell in Gamcheon. We were there with a few friends for some late lunch, and was pleasantly surprised that the western fanfare was quite heartwarming. Pretty much taste like my momma's cooking yo! Big English Breakfast (comes with Toast)— 10,000 Won

It's a very simple homemade breakfast that I strangely miss — even the burnt sausages and charred tomatoes did not make me go eww. The crispy bacon, sweet coleslaw and crispy fries is the star of the dish. Spot the tiny swiss mushroom at the side near the golden sunny side-up. However, if I weren't that hungry, I wouldn't order this dish because more than 80% of the plate is overcooked.

Fish & Chips — 8,000 Won

British cuisine in Busan? *scratch head*
Isn't it intriguing that they have a skinny fried dory fillet with the flag of Britain on a toothpick? Sorry but the fish is too small, I think I can eat 3 pieces of that. Everything else was delicious though - well-seasoned and crispy at the right places!

Pasta (Tomato) — 7,000 Won

Fun-fact: Did you know that canned tomato sauce has higher fibre than fresh tomatoes?! Anyway, the spaghetti here is rather springy and reminded me of instant noodles— but the 'QQ' chewy texture did its magic. It was certainly yummy— if you had to rate the sauce on a scale, it certainly lies in the middle of sweetness and sourness.

Bacon & Vegetable Fried Rice — 7,000 WON (S$8.45)

Fried Rice
Ai Ling loves this dish and I can understand why — the rice was sticky yet not mushy and every part of it was flavourful. I've had fried rice where certain parts were hard and crispy but this dish doesn't do that — every part was evenly cooked except the egg, which was more burnt on one end than the other. Plus, I think this is their menu outlier (which part of it is western?!)
